Hispanics set to be one quarter of United States youth

It is being reported by the U.S. Census Bureau that Hispanics under the age of 20 will make up 21.8 percent of the American youth population– the figure is an increase from the 2000 census count of 17 percent.

While the U.S. Census Bureau hasn’t officially released the results of the 2010 Census count the projected Hispanic youth numbers are based on the number of births, deaths, enrollments in Medicare and the projected new immigrants who came to the country before April 1st of this year.

For the last 10 years the Latino population has been the fastest growing minority group inside America and the impact has greater reaches than simply numbers. The Hispanic Caucus realizing this fact has moved to exert its power inside Washington D.C. in an effort to have their voices heard.

Preliminary numbers coming from the U.S. Census Bureau report the American population grew by 29.4 million people. In 2000 the country’s population came in at 281.4 million and the new figures claim that approximately 310.8 million asked to be counted in the 2010 census.
