14-year-old cartel assassin’s mom arrested in San Diego

The mother of the suspected 14-year-old cartel assassin responsible for at least four beheadings has been arrested and charged with being in the United States illegally.

Border Patrol agents arrested Yolanda Lugo Jimenez, 43, at her San Diego apartment on Monday according to a federal complaint.

Court documents show Lugo was deported in September of 1997 and admitted that she possessed no legal documentation to be living inside America.

It was Lugo’s son, Edgar Jimenez Lugo, who was arrested last week in Mexico on suspicion of ruthlessly beheading cartel rivals of the South Pacific drug cartel. The 14-year-old’s cartel moniker was El Ponchis (The Cloak).

Mexican Military personnel captured the young murder suspect at the Cuernavaca airport where he was trying to board a plane headed to the United States border with his 16-year-old sister. Authorities say the boy was headed to California where his mother was living.

The boy and his 19-year-old sister, Elizabeth Jimenez Lugo, allegedly worked for Julio “El Negro” Padilla, who has been trying to seize control of the illicit drug market in Morelos, Mexico through violence, Mexican authorities said.

After the teen’s arrest he was taken to a regional attorney generals office. The boy admitted that he participated in at least four decapitations, claiming that he was “drugged by the gang and under threat that if I didn’t [participate], they would kill me.”

The boy’s sister told reporters they intended to cross the San Diego border to escape the cartels.

According to Morelos Gov. Marco Adame Castillo the U.S. killer was born in San Diego, California. The attorney general for Morelos state said the two suspects were turned over to state authorities who handle crimes committed by minors in Mexico.

It has now been reported that U.S. consular officials have met with the teen who is being held at an undisclosed location for his protection.
